The new Garrett® 150mm F/5.5 triplet binocular telescope is simply the biggest observation instrument we've ever offered. In fact, it's the largest conventional binocular telescope currently in production. Our flagship binocular telescope features the light gathering power of two 150mm refractors - one for each eye - and the flexibility to interchange both 2" and 1.25" telescope eyepieces. All this in a heavy-duty carrying case that makes for a dream portable rich field observing setup.
Let's take a look at some features.
Your first impression of this binocular is its sheer size - it's a massive 30-inch long, 46-pound behemoth. An attractive pearl grey finish helps conceal fingerprints, and complements the attractive lines of the durable cast-aluminum binocular body.
Perhaps the most impressive feature of the Garrett 150mm F/5.5 binocular telescope is its standard 2-inch helical focusers, which accept the largest standard telescope eyepieces. This is a unique feature that allows it to achieve unprecedented wide fields of view, even with its 824mm focal length - up to a theoretical maximum of almost 3.4° in a 2" barrel. This is a big step forward from models like the Fujinon 25x150,
which are limited to a single magnification, and is one of the reasons
the Garrett is such a good value in this aperture range. The binocular comes standard with a total of three pairs of long-eye-relief 2" eyepieces: 25x (34mm, 65° AFOV, 2.6° TFOV), 30x (28mm, 72° AFOV, 2.4° TFOV), and 35x (24mm, 67° AFOV, 1.9° TFOV). Each of these eyepieces is threaded for standard 48mm telescope filters and features a design optimized to work with the 150mm F/5.5 objective lenses, which makes for an exceptionally flat field of view. The Garrett 150mm also performs well with virtually all 2" telescope eyepieces, though the best performance will be seen with premium designs. The 2" helical focusers utilize unique twist-lock compression ring eyepiece holders - this system makes switching and properly centering eyepieces a snap. With the included 2-inch to 1.25-inch eyepiece adapters, the Garrett 150mm performs well with most 1.25" eyepieces as well, down to about 10mm focal length. An interpupilary distance range of 62-76mm accommodates most viewers.
The 150mm F/5.5 air-spaced triplet objective lenses are fully broadband multi-coated, as is every air-to-glass optical surface in the binocular, including the massive, high-index BaK4 prism clusters and the included eyepieces. Retractable dewshields are integrated into the design for maximum convenience.
Our recommended mounting solution is the exclusive 15-inch fork mount by industry leader Universal Astronomics, combined with the Manfrotto 161MK2B super duty tripod. The optional Manfrotto 181B Auto-Dolly makes it easy to wheel the entire unit around an observatory, deck or garage. The smooth movements, Teflon bearings and adjustable tension of the Universal fork are the perfect complement to the convenience of the big Manfrotto tripod, which features a crank-adjustable center column for convenient height adjustment while panning around the sky or to compensate for height differences between you and your family and friends.
The Garrett 150mm binocular telescope is designed with adjustable-tension trunnions (by Universal Astronomics) mounted at its balance point, which allows it to be simply lowered onto the fork mount. This makes mounting this big binocular as smooth as possible. The binocular comes with an extremely well-built aluminum / PVC carrying case, with holes in the foam lining for the binocular and several 2" eyepieces.
Like all of our binoculars, each Garrett 150mm binocular telescope is individually tested for collimation as part of our 14-point inspection, and any necessary adjustments are performed by a highly-experienced technician. It is also covered by our two-year warranty and 30-day return policy.
International Customers: Please email us prior to ordering for a customized shipping quote - because of its extremely large size, we may not be able to ship the GT150-45 to your country using standard USPS shipping options.
