| The 503HDV is the new, improved version of the Manfrotto 503 head. The Bogen 028B (formerly 3246) tripod and 503HDV head combination is recommended for binoculars up to the Signature 20/28x110.
With a maximum capacity of 26.5 lbs., the Bogen / Manfrotto 028B tripod provides rock-solid stability. Its adjustable height center column make it easy to raise or lower the binocular to the ideal height either when moving from target to target or simply to allow a shorter individual to appreciate the view.
The 17.6-lb. capacity Bogen 503 HDV is essentially a heavier-duty version of the Bogen 501 HDV with the addition of dual counter-balance springs, which helps maintain tension when using heavy binoculars at near the zenith. Its sliding quick-release plate helps balance uneven payloads and dual rosettes permit left- or two-handed pan handle configurations. We strongly recommend purchasing a second pan-handle for the 503HDV head – this makes it easier to control heavy binoculars while panning, in addition to providing added comfort to the observer. The 028B/503HDV combination is extremely tall, with a maximum height of over 93 inches – just one more reason it is such a great choice for our biggest binoculars.
