The 17.6-lb. capacity Bogen 503 HDV is essentially a heavier-duty version of the Bogen 501 HDV with the addition of dual counter-balance springs, which helps maintain tension when using heavy binoculars at near the zenith. Its sliding quick-release plate helps balance uneven payloads and dual rosettes permit left- or two-handed pan handle configurations. We strongly recommend purchasing a second pan-handle for the 503HDV head – this makes it easier to control heavy binoculars while panning, in addition to providing added comfort to the observer. The 3246/503HDV combination is extremely tall, with a maximum height of over 93 inches – just one more reason it is such a great choice for our biggest binoculars.
