...the tripod was delivered in excellent condition and well worth the wait (click for more). Brand new from Garrett Optical!
Our new Series 3000 Tripod + Head combo is designed to be simply the best value out there in an affordable medium-duty tripod for binocular astronomy. Essentially comparable to the much more expensive Bogen/Manfrotto 128RC head with 055XDB tripod. Specifically designed for use with our range of astronomical binoculars, it can accommodate observers of virtually any size with a fully-extended height of 78 inches (that's right, 6 feet, 6 inches!)
Better yet, this tripod is extremely well built of heavy aluminum tubing, with a cast-aluminum pan head and comfortable rubber grips on two of the three legs. Includes a quick release plate with a standard 1/4"-20 thread and a rubber-padded pan handle. Weighs 8.5 lbs., and the head has an 11 pound (5 kg) capacity. Expect a 1-2
second damping (vibration settling) time with a 5.5-lb. load, and a 2-3
second damping time with a 8.3-lb. load. Also works great for digital
SLR's and other cameras. Comes with a nice padded carry bag and is covered by our 2-year warranty.
This tripod can be used to support binoculars up to our 8.3-lb. Gemini 20x90 model. The best choice for our 10+ pound binoculars is the Series 5000 tripod.
Pricing: $170, or just $140 when purchased with certain new binoculars!
Please note this product was not designed or intended by the
manufacturer for use by a child 12 years of age or younger.
Here's what reviewers and customers are saying about Garrett Optical's binoculars:
The much anticipated date finally arrived today.. the tripod was delivered in excellent condition and well worth the wait. I thought I had reviewed it closely.. but did not realize it came with a padded case.. nor did I imagine it would be so well dampened... the build quality is beyond my expectations and the quick release plate... again... a perfectly wonderful surprise. Once the 15 x 70 Signature Binocs were properly affixed, I was able to stand on my upper deck this afternoon and get a good look at Mt. Hood up close. I am about 50 miles from it, as the crow flies... even with the heat distortion I was able to see the lift house at the top of the Magic Mile and the bottom lift house at Palmer Glacier... Silcox hut is just over the horizon... this may make no sense whatsoever, but believe me, it’s impressive. Once the air cooled off, the mountain was basked in alpenglow... and the view was even more spectacular. The primary reason for the purchase is astronomical, however, as you have just read... We can also see Mt. Adams from our place... St. Helens is behind a line of trees, but a short walk up the street reveals all... in fact, we can even see the tip of Mt. Jefferson from our local grocery store parking lot... and if the days are really clear, and you are in the right location… we can see Mt. Rainer. I am leaving for the south side of St. Helens tomorrow... Swift Forest Camp... and you can bet these are coming along for the ride… nice dark skies up there. [We] will be in Mendocino on the CA coast in a few weeks... again... these are going along for the ride.

I just received my Series 3000 tripod, and my first impression is excellent. It is vastly superior to my old camera tripod in many ways, most importantly stability and maximum height. I'm very much looking forward to having a stable image without serious neck strain. [...] Also, thanks for the impressive level of detail in updates regarding the shipping process, I appreciate it.
